Amazon One Medical is a telehealth service offering virtual and in-person doctor appointments and prescription management services. People can access the platform through the Amazon website or the Amazon One Medical app.
It offers same- or next-day appointments and 24/7 access to licensed healthcare professionals through video or messaging appointments.
Before becoming Amazon One Medical, Amazon provided online healthcare services through Amazon Clinic. In 2023, Amazon bought the health company One Medical, which already offered online appointments and a well-established network of in-person clinics across the United States.
Amazon One Medical cannot provide:
- emergency care, including care for heart attacks, strokes, or major accidents
- specialist care such as cardiology, neurology, or oncology
- surgery
- specialized mental health care
- specialized diagnostic or genetic testing
Its pediatric services are only available in the following areas:
- San Francisco Bay Area
- New York
- Los Angeles
- Orange County
- Portland
- Seattle
- Chicago
- Boston
- Austin
- Phoenix
People can either pay per visit or sign up for an Amazon One Medical membership as an additional perk to their Amazon Prime membership. They can also sign up directly through One Medical, although this incurs a higher annual fee than signing up through Amazon.
Signing up through One Medical without Amazon means the service will cost $199 per year, excluding the cost of medication or treatments.
Prime membership, which costs $14.99 per month, does not automatically include a One Medical Membership. Adding this membership to Prime costs $9 per month. A person can add up to five additional members to their One Medical membership for $6 per month per person or $66 annually.
A single user with Prime membership would pay $122.99 a year in total, and a family of four would pay around $500 annually for Prime and Amazon One Medical.

In 2023, the FTC issued a statement highlighting the need for Amazon and One Medical to protect sensitive consumer data. It wrote that Amazon One Medical must be transparent about how it will use patient data beyond the healthcare space.
The HIPAA Journal also stated that HIPAA protection is out of date, and there may be ways for Amazon One Medical to exploit weaknesses in the regulations to misuse data.
However, Amazon assured that it will keep One Medical data separate from its retail and marketing business and that it will fully comply with HIPAA. It also provides information on its own privacy policies and those of One Medical on its website.
The FTC continues to monitor Amazon One Medical and other practitioners in this space.
A person can sign up for Amazon One Medical through Amazon or the One Medical website. Signing up through Amazon gets people discounted membership costs.
Users will need to enter some personal and health information and details on their insurance coverage, if applicable.
People can then choose a membership plan and a primary care provider from the One Medical network.
It is important for people to check whether One Medical is available in their area and that their insurance provider accepts One Medical before confirming their membership.
Like all telehealth platforms, Amazon One Medical aims to make seeking diagnosis, management, and treatment of everyday conditions easier. People can access timely virtual and in-person appointments using the One Medical network across the United States, and the service is not restricted to those with health insurance.
People can choose to pay per visit or sign up for a membership for long-term access to the platform.
Although Amazon One Medical can be suitable for people seeking day-to-day healthcare, it will not be the best choice for those seeking specialist or complex care. It is also unsuitable for emergencies.
