Special Secretary Health Thori reviews medical services in flood-hit Ferozepur


Ferozepur, September 1, 2025: Punjab Government’s Special Secretary Health-cum-Managing Director, National Health Mission, Ghan Shyam Thori, visited flood-affected areas of Ferozepur today to review the medical services being provided to the victims.


At a medical camp set up in village Jallo Ke, Thori inspected arrangements and directed officials to further intensify health check-ups and ensure the timely supply of essential medicines through mobile medical teams, so that no affected person is deprived of treatment. He stressed special attention towards the safe deliveries of pregnant women.


Thori informed that nearly 400 medical camps have been organized so far in the flood-hit villages, where over 8,700 patients have been examined and provided medicines. The health department has deployed four mobile medical teams at the district headquarters, 60 teams in the field, and 10 additional reserve teams. Around 12,000 chlorine tablets have already been distributed, while 23,000 remain in stock. A total of 27 ambulances, including boat ambulances, are available, and anti-larval spray operations are underway.


Earlier, Thori held a review meeting with Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Deepshikha Sharma and health officials at the District Administrative Complex, directing them to strengthen medical relief operations. DC briefed that more than 100 villages along the Sutlej have been affected, with relief operations being carried out jointly by the administration, Army, BSF, NDRF, Punjab Police, and social organisations. Eight relief camps have been set up in the district, equipped with food, mattresses, dry rations, biscuits, milk for children, and medical aid.


Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajwinder Kaur presented a detailed report on control rooms, medical and mobile teams, ambulances, and coordination with private nursing colleges, medical associations, and chemists to ensure uninterrupted services.


ADC (G) Damanjit Singh Mann, AC (G) Gurdev Singh Dhamm, Miss Lindiya IAS (UT), Simranjit Singh PCS (UT), Assistant Civil Surgeon Sushma Thakkar, along with officers from health and other departments, were also present.
