Medical Professional Dr. Monib Zirvi, MD, PhD, Celebrates Over 20 Years in Dermatology

With a career that spans more than two decades, Dr. Monib Zirvi, MD, PhD, is a distinguished dermatologist and researcher who has dedicated his career to advancing both patient care and scientific discovery. Since 2004, Dr. Zirvi has been a practicing dermatologist at Summit Health, where he has built a prolific career and earned a reputation for clinical excellence and dedication to patient care.
Dr. Zirvi’s Academic Achievements
Dr. Zirvi’s academic achievements were instrumental in his professional journey, which began at Princeton University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in engineering, specializing in electrical engineering. He graduated summa cum laude and was a Phi Beta Kappa honoree, continuing his academic pursuits at Cornell University Medical College (Weill Cornell Medicine), where he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in 1996 and a Doctor of Medicine in molecular biology in 2000. He subsequently completed an internship in internal medicine at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in 2001 and his dermatology residency at the University of Pennsylvania, becoming board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology.
During his graduate studies, Dr. Zirvi was instrumental in designing the original ZipCode DNA sequences and led to the development of the Universal Zipcode DNA Array – contributing to innovations in genetic diagnostics and microarray technology.
Dr. Zirvi has been a practicing dermatologist at Summit Health since 2004. During his time at Summit Health, he has earned a reputation for his clinical expertise, patient-centered care and leadership in medical research.
In addition to his responsibilities at Summit Health, Dr. Zirvi serves as an adjunct clinical instructor at Weill Cornell Medical College, where he mentors the next generation of medical professionals.
Dedication to the Health Care Field
Dr. Zirvi remains dedicated to his field, which is highlighted by his certification in strategic leadership in health care via New York University. He has also been active in several industry-related organizations, such as the American Academy of Dermatology, The Tau Beta Pi Association Inc. and the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Additionally, Dr. Zirvi has been active as an attending dermatologist at the Atlantic Health System Overlook Medical Center and is involved in chairing the Princeton University Alumni Schools Committee of Northern Middlesex County.
Advocate for Scientific Integrity
Alongside his contributions to the health care field, Dr. Zirvi is a fierce advocate for scientific integrity and ethical corporate practices, with his ongoing legal efforts rooted in concerns about the fair recognition of intellectual property contributions and transparent legal representation.
He is currently pursuing a legal malpractice appeal in the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, Case No. 24-2644, Zirvi v. Illumina Inc., Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, Latham & Watkins LLP, Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., and others, specifically against Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP and its attorneys Matthew Pearson and Angela Verrecchio, for their alleged concealment of critical documents, conflicts of interest, and failure to protect his intellectual property rights.
Dr. Zirvi is seeking to establish key legal precedents concerning attorney-client responsibilities, conflicts of interest and fiduciary duties in complex intellectual property cases.
Recognized for Contributions
Dr. Zirvi’s contributions to his field have earned him multiple awards, including the Beerman-Johnson Resident Research Award from the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in 2003.
While crediting his success to his hard work and dedication, Dr. Zirvi also acknowledges his parents’ influence, as they instilled in him the importance of education. In the coming years, he hopes to witness the growth and success of his career, expanding the scope of his work at one of the laboratories at Weill Cornell to help advance his specialty and further contribute to science.
