Castle Connolly selects 10 BSSNY doctors for prestigious Top Docs list

Every year, Castle Connolly compiles its “Top Doctors” list: a directory of the top healthcare providers nationwide. This year, Brain and Spine Surgeons of New York is honored to announce that ten of its practitioners made the list for 2021.

The list is known for its rigorous selection process, which relies on a physician-led research team to determine which doctors meet the group’s standards. The team considers factors including professional qualifications, education, hospital and faculty appointments, research leadership and professional reputation.

BSSNY’s strong performance this year is a testament to the practice’s commitment to medical excellence.

BSSNY’s 2021 honorees

The BSSNY honorees included on the Top Doctors list are:

Dr. Ezriel Kornel, a board-certified neurosurgeon with expertise in minimally invasive spinal surgery, brain tumors and spinal cord tumors. Dr. Kornel is the director of the Institute for Neurosciences at Northern Westchester Hospital. He is trained on the innovative Gamma Knife® radiosurgery tool.

Dr. Bradley Cash, a board-certified physiatrist and an MD trained in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Dr. Cash is the Medical Director of Spine Options, BSSNY’s affiliated onsite practice for non-surgical pain relief. He is also the President elect for the New York Pain Society.

Dr. Virany Hillard, a board-certified neurosurgeon with expertise in minimally invasive brain and spine procedures. Dr. Hillard is the attending physician at Westchester Medical Center and an assistant professor at Westchester Medical College. Dr. Hillard is also BSSNY’s Medical Director.

Dr. Lyle W.F. Posecion, a double board-certified physician in physical medicine and rehabilitation and pain medicine, specializing in minimally invasive pain management techniques. Dr. Posecion is a member of multiple professional organizations, including the New York State Pain Society, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the International Spine Intervention Society.

Dr. Krishn Sharma, a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon with expertise in spinal deformity. Dr. Sharma is a member of the Scoliosis Research Society, the North American Spine Society and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery. He is an expert in the surgical correction of childhood scoliosis.

Dr. Michael Tobias, a board-certified neurosurgeon and pediatric neurosurgeon. Dr. Tobias primarily works in his capacity as a pediatric neurosurgeon. He is also an assistant professor of neurosurgery and pediatrics at New York Medical College.

Dr. Peter Costantino, a double board-certified head and neck surgeon and facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon. Dr. Costantino specializes in skull base tumors, which are notoriously difficult to treat because of their hard-to-reach locations. Through his frequent research and lectures, he is a leader in the field.

Dr. Neil Patel, a double board-certified Interventional Pain Management Physician. In addition to serving as the Medical Director of Pain Management and Palliative Care Medicine at Montefiore Nyack Hospital, Dr. Patel is also an adjunct faculty member at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Vincent Carlesi, a board-certified anesthesiologist with a subspecialty in pain management. Dr. Carlesi is a recent addition to the BSSNY team, joining the practice in February 2021. He utilizes specialized treatments such as intravenous ketamine infusions, stem cell treatments, and platelet-rich plasma treatments.

Dr. Darius Kohan, a board-certified otolaryngologist. In addition to his role at BSSNY, Dr. Kohan teaches the next generation of doctors as a Clinical Associate Professor at New York University’s Grossman School of Medicine. He also serves as Director of Otology/Neurotology at both Lenox Hill Hospital and Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital.
